da apostaganha: Against all the odds, Barcelona managed to tally another impressive 2-1 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League earlier this week.
Interestingly enough, the odds were against them because they had already qualified for the knockout stages and Ernesto Valverde decided to reshuffle the deck and deploy a fairly young side to face the Nerazzurri.
But even that seemed to be enough as some fringe players stepped up and took their chance with both hands.
One such player was definitely the 21-year-old Carles Alena, a slightly forgotten La Masia graduate that still has only 153 minutes under the belt in the current campaign – and that’s with the 90 vs Inter included.
With his situation at the club looking gloomy, he was linked with plenty of clubs and Tottenham Hotspur seem to remain one of the possible destinations for him in January already, as per a report from AS earlier this month.
Jose Mourinho could very well have taken notice of Alena following a rather masterful display from the young midfielder.
The 21-year-old was at the hub of everything for the Catalans, tallying an incredible, game-high 111 touches.
But that was not nearly all that he did.
Alena also registered four key passes with 94 passes in total, and both figures were also the highest in their respective categories.
He also completed three dribbles which were, once again, the most by any player throughout the whole 90 minutes. Only Lautaro Martinez from Inter could match it with three of his own but no one had more than that.
The Spaniard was also involved in the team’s defending with one tackle and one registered interception as well, which completed his masterclass performance on the night.
Needless to say, despite his current situation at Barcelona, the future seems bright for this La Masia talent and maybe Spurs are the place for him to grow into the star he was supposed to become.
Mourinho has vowed to use young talents during his tenure in London, and Alena looks like someone the Special One could mould into an incredible player in his own right.
