da premier bet: Former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant has told new Rangers signing Joey Barton to keep his mouth shut after making a number of comments about Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and captain Scott Brown.
da pinnacle: Barton criticised new Celtic boss Rodgers’ lack of silverware, while he described Brown as not in his league. Ex Celtic star Grant told the Glasgow Evening Times that although he knows Barton likes to deliberately antagonise opponents as part of his game, he believes the comments could come back to haunt him.

“To come out with stuff about Scott Brown and Brendan Rodgers before a ball has been kicked is crazy. We all know that Joey likes to be forthright with his opinions but I don’t think he quite realises what he is setting himself up for. He would be far better to shut his mouth and do his talking on the pitch.”
Grant doesn’t believe that Celtic captain Brown should give any response to Barton’s comments and both players should do their talking on the pitch when they come up against each other in the much-anticipated Old Firm derbies next season.
“As for Scott, it would be just as daft for him to give it the slightest bit of notice,” Grant added. “Again, there will be a game in the next couple of months when they come up against each other – that’s the time to show what you have got. I do think winding people up and antagonising them is a big part of Joey’s game. It always has been. But there is a point when it is a part of your demeanour and then a line when you have got to be able to back that up.”
Rangers midfielder Barton moved to Rangers on a free transfer from Burnley after his contract with the Clarets expired. He helped Sean Dyche’s side to promotion to the Premier League after finishing first in the English Championship.
