da fezbet: The transfer window has seen plenty of incomings and outgoings, and has proved to be one of the most expensive, exceeding £750m in just three months.
da dobrowin: As a result, there have been some big names being introduced to the Premier League. La Liga has a vision of bringing the top 100 players to Spain and making it the most exciting league in the world. However, it looks as though they are failing at the minute with the likes of Angel Di Maria, Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez all joining England’s top flight this summer.
In the striker department, two superstars of the game have also chosen to have a crack at the Premier League and could potentially shatter the top goal scoring charts in a matter of months. Both Falcao and Diego Costa joined Manchester United and Chelsea respectively, and are sure to terrorise even the strongest defenders in the country.
In a £6m loan move from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, Falcao’s switch came as a bit of a surprise and Van Gaal moved ever so quickly to secure the Colombian’s signature. The 28-year-old is a potent forward and has the capability of scoring audacious goals, which is exactly what the Red Devils need after last season’s disaster under David Moyes. From 2011/2012-2014/2015, Falcao, also known as ‘El Tigre’, had the second best conversion rate than Manchester United’s former and current strikers, which includes Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie.
Wherever Falcao has plied his trade, Falcao has always guaranteed goals. While playing for Atletico Madrid and Monaco, Falcao scored an incredible combined total of 63 goals in 84 appearances.
One problem that could arise is the former FC Porto attacker has recently recovered from a serious knee injury which ruled him out of the World Cup in Brazil. If that reoccurs, even on a less serious scale, then the Old Trafford side could be light up front, with Van Persie’s injury record not the greatest either.
In Chelsea’s £32m man Diego Costa, the Brazilian born Spanish international has started life at Stamford Bridge with a bang. The former Atletico Madrid hitman has only taken four games to score seven goals, 14 games less than Blues legend Didier Drogba, 37 games less than Andrey Shevchenko and 39 games less than £50m record signing Fernando Torres.
While playing in La Liga last season, Costa scored 27 goals in 34 appearances, with a strike conversion rate of 25%. Aswell as being a strong and powerful presence, Costa has the physique and attributes to cope with the pressures of England’s top flight.
Again, like Falcao, all eyes will be on Chelsea’s medical staff, as keeping Costa fit will be fundamental in order for the title favourites to prove doubters wrong. Despite his excellent goal scoring record, it seems Costa hasn’t been full fit this season. That’s a worrying sign for any other Premier League club. Just think of the damage he could do if he remained 100% fit for an entire season?c
Over the course of the season, the battle to become the Premier League’s top scorer will be a very interesting one. However, for the neutral, to see these two superstars of the game scoring for fun will prove why the Premier league really is the best in the world.
