da blaze casino: As reported by Portuguese outlet A Bola, Victor Lindelof will not be leaving Benfica anytime soon with his agent shutting down recent rumours linking him with Europe’s top clubs, including Manchester United.
Hadn’t United already made contact?
da pinnacle: Last week, we discussed reports suggesting Mourinho had indeed made enquiries about signing the Swedish international but that appears to have been ruled out, at least for now.
Quoted by A Bola, Lindelof’s agent Hasan Cetinakaya said…
“There are many speculations regarding Lindelof’s future, but he plays with one of the best European clubs already. There are many clubs interested in signing Lindelof too, but he’s happy at Benfica at the moment and doesn’t want to leave.”
It’s not like a football agent to shut down transfer rumours so firmly, so it seems Lindelof will indeed remain a Benfica player past January at least.
Mourinho needs defensive reinforcements, with Man United having conceded 16 Premier League goals in 14 games this season, but will likely have to look elsewhere.
Who is Lindelof?
The Swedish defender burst into the Benfica first-team last year and hasn’t looked back since, making close to 50 appearances for the Portuguese giants.
His reputation is growing in the game and international team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic (quoted by the Daily Mail) recently showered praise on the young centre-back when asked about his prospects.
Ibrahimovic said…
“I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now. He is growing.”
That had tongues wagging that Manchester United were interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.
Despite assertions he is staying in Portugal for now, we have no doubt Europe’s big clubs will be back to knock on Benfica’s door for the big defender’s services.
