Spurs announced on Twitter that the 26-year-old has undergone “exploratory surgery” on his left knee, which has come as a shock given that he recently returned to training.
As well as missing Tottenham’s final Premier League games of the season against Leicester City and Hull City, Rose will be absent from international duty.
Gareth Southgate’s team will take on Germany and Scotland next month, but Rose will not be available for selection.
The full-back was a regular member of Mauricio Pochettino’s team before he was struck down with injury, starting 18 Premier League games and contributed with two goals and two assists.
