da heads bet: As reported by The Times, both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea will be at the front of the queue in January for Everton talent Ross Barkley after a move to London broke down on deadline day.
What’s the story?
da aviator aposta: The Everton man travelled to Chelsea on Thursday after the English champions agreed a £35m fee with the Toffees, but the player failed to agree terms and it looks like his future won’t be sorted out until January.
The Times say that with his hamstring injury ruling him out until the end of the year anyway, he’ll decide his future once he is fit again and has just six months remaining on his current deal at Everton.
The paper say that Chelsea will be back in for him again, joined by London rivals Spurs, who are also interested in his signature.
Can he make the step up?
By the time January rolls around and half the season has gone without Barkley kicking a ball, he’ll have a lot to do to prove he is worth all the transfer fuss shown over the summer months.
The jury is out on whether he has enough about him to step up to a top four side and whether he moves to Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur, he’ll have to work doubly hard to break into two talented, elite squads.
Last season he scored 5 goals and assisted 9 more, a sign he does have the talent to be a hit in the upper reaches of the English Premier League. At the London clubs though he’ll need to work on his consistency.
His future is one everyone will be eagerly watching.
