However, there are still plenty of games left to play and things remain tight at the top, so success is far from certain for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Former West Ham United striker and EFL on Quest pundit Dean Ashton believes that one flaw in the Elland Road club’s squad could hold them back.

Speaking to Football League World, the pundit said of Leeds’ chances: “I wouldn’t say they are favourites for the top two just yet because Sheffield United and Norwich haven’t shown any particular weaknesses…The only worry I would have for them at the moment is that Kemar Roofe is out with injury. He was out of form before getting sidelined and that is a worry. Norwich have Teemu Pukki and Sheffield United have Billy Sharp and their goals can be hard to keep with.”
Working with what they have
The Whites certainly lack a truly prolific goalscorer. Sharp has racked up 22 league goals so far this season, whilst Pukki leads the division with 24 strikes. Meanwhile, Leeds’ top scorer, Roofe, has only notched 14 times in the Championship.
However, Bielsa’s side generally spread the goals around well, with Patrick Bamford, Pablo Hernandez, Ezgjan Alioski and Mateusz Klich all chipping in this season. What’s more, Leeds can get away with being slightly less prolific as they’re so solid defensively.
By sticking to the principles of Bielsa’s system, and keeping faith in what they have, Leeds can still scrap their way to the top flight even without one of the biggest-hitting strikers in the division. That being said, in a run-in as tight as this, a few scrappy goals from a natural predator can make all the difference.
