Speaking to beIN Sports, Arsene Wenger has written off Manchester United’s chances of title success over the coming years.
What did he say?
The Red Devils have endured a troublesome period since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer of 2013, and ended last season in sixth place in the Premier League.
Now, former Arsenal manager Wenger has poured cold water over the United squad achieving major success in the near future, and questioned their maturity.

He said: “When you see Man Utd, they are one of the examples where there is a potential there. But they have not found a collective way. Maybe these players are not mature enough to carry the team play of a team like Man United, altogether. That is the question mark now.
“You feel there is something coming out but it’s not ready. When you watch them play, they are not a candidate to fight for the championship. Will they emulate what (Ryan) Giggs, (Paul) Scholes, (David) Beckham did over a number of years? Personally, I’m not convinced.”
Long-term rebuild
The task at hand for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is arguably the toughest since Ferguson’s exit. The Norwegian has had to deal with some of the problems created by his predecessors, both in terms of the playing squad and their mentality.
The rebuilding job is likely to take a number of transfer windows to fully complete, and so Wenger’s damning assessment doesn’t feel particularly ground-breaking or shocking to say the least. The Red Devils must be fully aware of the state of the current situation, and it will be necessary to go through some short-term pain to achieve some long-term success.
