da heads bet: Everyone must be eager to see what kind of changes Jose Mourinho will implement now that he has successfully taken over Tottenham Hotspur following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.
da dobrowin: Naturally, it didn’t take long for Spurs to be linked with all sorts of names from the footballing world, including Mourinho’s former “pupil”, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But the Special One has quickly put those rumours to bed by saying that there’s simply no chance of the big Swede joining him at Spurs, despite Ibrahimovic being a free agent.
Still, looking at the whole pool of soon-to-be out of contract players, there are some that might pique the Portuguese manager’s interest.
So without further ado, here are three players Mourinho could target in the future:
Thomas Meunier – Paris-Saint Germain
Tottenham Hotspur’s right-back issues are no longer a big secret. In fact, this is an area Mourinho just might be forced to improve if he wants to accomplish anything during his London stint.
Kieran Trippier’s departure to Atletico Madrid has left Spurs with Serge Aurier as the club’s first choice full-back. While he has impressed in Mourinho’s opening two fixtures, his erratic displays have prompted heavy – and justifiable – criticism from pundits in the past.
Interestingly enough, Meunier’s contract is due to expire next summer and for that reason, this deal could be a match made in heaven.
After all, the 28-year-old defender is experienced enough to give Spurs a solid backbone in defence and also has multiple years left ahead of him. Not to mention that scooping him for free would potentially solve a problematic area for nothing.
No-brainer.

Luka Modric – Real Madrid
Forget Bale, how about a deal to re-sign the Croatian wizard himself?
Last year’s Ballon d’Or winner would definitely be a huge acquisition for Mourinho.
Since the Special One is a big name himself, making such a statement signing, even if it’s a 34-year-old midfielder slowly heading towards the sunset, could definitely get fans excited.

Modric might be in the last phase of his career but he still has quality and that much was seen in Real Madrid’s latest victory over Real Sociedad when the Croat netted one goal and two assists to lead Los Blancos to a 3-1 triumph.
Not to mention that he is a former club icon since he played 160 games for Tottenham, scoring 17 goals and assisting 27 in the process.
Getting him for free would be a headline-making bargain indeed.
Blaise Matuidi – Juventus
Another veteran midfielder who could come in and assert dominance into Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield is definitely the 32-year-old Matuidi from Juventus.
The World Cup winner doesn’t really need much of an introduction and with a generally young squad currently at Mourinho’s disposal, putting such a commanding general into the mix could potentially do them the world of good.
Not to mention that he is a proven winner, just like his would-be coach, and he definitely knows how to secure silverware for the cabinet. He has played nearly 300 games for Paris Saint-Germain and just over 100 for Juventus and who knows, a chance to taste the Premier League before he calls it a day could be tempting enough to give Spurs a shot at signing him.
He’s very much worth the hassle.
In other news, Real Madrid have seemingly made a bold decision on one of Chelsea’s soon-to-be out of contract players as well.
